2009 Sauternes – How to Bag the best value of the crop
Where would you begin by selecting each Sauternes wine is different and the range Price is as wide as the Grand Canyon? The 2009 vintage Sauternes is a good example, made more difficult because there are so many good wines to choose from!
What In any case, here in the tasting room, I had the 2009 Sauternes all aligned in a row, just to see how you think. So I thought while I'm here, I could give you an expert on Bordeaux wines for the hard choices before you. It could help you bag (or box!) Some absolute stars of the vintage.
Now, 12 bottles of Sauternes is much the same to have in your cellar, so why not make it more variable? If you have the chance, selection and mix your own case. And maybe I could make some suggestions.
1. Mix Top priced wines with a "Value of the harvest" wines.
In the 2009's, there are four or five wines that are very high prices and the benefits of a pick and Mix is that you may be diluted by mixing these high prices with some lower price wines.
I think the high wine prices as Suduiraut, Coutet Castle Fargues, Rieussec and soon Climens and Yquem – maybe you can mix them with some real business of vintage as Raymond Lafon, Doisy-Védrines, and the Alliance Area.
While not excluding the mid-range wines, the wines that came out at the price we expected, as Guiraud, Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Lafaurie-Peyrageuy, Rabaud Promis Sigalas-Rabaud and because they are all good.
2. Mix a case that changes the age drinking
The other thing is that you can use mixed case to vary the ageability of wines. It's terribly annoying when all the wines in a If now suddenly drink.
Why not have wines that are drinking earlier as Chateau Liot, then maybe some of the greatest wines that are more forward and easy to start with as Lamothe-Guignard, Château de Myrat – wonderful wines, but that will probably be the best in five years rather than 50 years!
You could mix with these wines as Clos Haut-Guiraud and Peyraguey likely to be super clean in ten years and then maybe few Yquem, Climens, Coutet, or Chateau de Fargues, which probably be wonderful fifty to one hundred years!
So, these are just a few ideas on very special vintage. Typically, cases are 12 or 24 bottles of 75ml, 37.5 ml half-bottles, then take them into account when your selections. About the Author
