Tasting Techniques

Wine tasting can be an overwhelming experience, especially if you start. But there is really only a few steps remember. Remember that wine tasting includes your senses: eyes, nose and mouth. The label will indicate the grape variety and vintage.

Try the following steps during your next wine tasting. It takes a few minutes. Record your impressions in the tasting notes, the back of this book.

1. COLOR

Look at the color of the wine while it is in the glass. It must be clear with no film. But do not worry about sediment in wine red and white wines in crystal. They will not hurt you. Also, watch the color of wine. The darker the wine, more taste. However, as red wines age the reverse is true. Beware of red wines that are a true red or have hints of orange. Probably they are too old. The white wines are probably too old, so there are hints of brown in them. White wines tend to become darker as they age. A good way to see the color of wine is to look on a white background. Tilt the glass and use a white cloth or towel to watch the wine close the outer edge of the glass.

2. ODOR

It is an important step because your nose can detect Thousands of fragrances. You must first shake the wine. This will bring the bouquet of wine. Now, breathe the wine and persist for a while. If you use notes, Write some description of what you feel. In most cases, you will feel the sweet smells of oak tasting, honey, rose petals and berries. But You can also mid odors II. Sulphur dioxide, a smell burning match, is ". s in inexpensive white wines. Also, beware of the wine with a smell of vinegar. If you like what you feel, you're more likely to enjoy the taste. Do not worry What is "supposed" the smell, everyone has different impressions.

3. TASTE

Take a sip of wine. Some people suggest moving the wine in the mouth and holding it in your mouth for about ten seconds. This will give you an idea of how the wine tastes and feels. Do this you are comfortable. As you SIP holds the wine on the tongue to determine if it is sweet, sour, salty, or batter. The salt is difficult to detect; sweetness is probably the easiest. Usually white and rosé wines are the sweetest. A batter the wine will taste astringent. Because it contains tannins, which is found in red wine. Tannin is an antioxidant that slows the aging cycle of red wine. It is found in grape skins, stems, and sometimes in oak barrels. If a wine is too bitter, try eating cheese. This will help reduce the bitter taste, because the protein in the cheese mixture with tannin and soften the taste. Try "chew" the wine as you would chew the food. You might find different taste in doing that. Once that you've swallowed the wine, notes the persistent taste. This is called the "length".

Try to determine why you like a wine on the other, and while you're tasting, note the differences in the expensive wines from cheap. It's a good idea to drink water after every taste to clear your palate.
