The royalty of France, seduced by the temperate climate and forests game-filled oak built their sumptuous installed in the Loire Valley. They are surrounded by the greatest architects and Artiest this time. This is the land of a thousand castles. The valley is full of not only royal castles and renaissance palaces, national museum, and castles, but also castles and medieval fortresses, small fairy tale manors, private castles, medieval cities, churches, abbeys, and cathedrals. Numerous castles and historic houses are open to the public: some belong to the state, such as Chambord and Blois, others are private, and still lived in. A large percentage of them run son-and-light shows during the tourist season. Chateau de Chenonceau and Chateau de Chambord are definitely worth a visit and are close Blois.

Chateau du Clos Luce
Chateau du Clos Luce is where Leonard de Vinci spent the last four years of his life. You can visit his study, living, kitchen and bedrooms, the frescoes of the chapel and see paintings by his pupils. His drawings and paintings are exhibited in the castle park with giant models of the most spectacular machines he invented with voice-overs of Leonardo da Vinci and his disciple Melzi.

Chateau Blois
Chateau Blois is almost like four separate chateaux combined into one – so diverse are the architectural styles at play here. The medieval heart is centered around the Hall of Generals states that is the case with the Court and the Council were founded. Flamboyant Gothic flair is evident in the Louis XII wing whereas the architecture of the Renaissance is the dominant style in the Francois 1 wing. It is in the Francois 1 wing that you will find rooms Catherine de Medici private table with poisons. This was also the place where the Duke of Guise was brutally murdered in 1588 after considered in planning a Catholic uprising against Henri III. Apparently, it was Henri who carried out the act itself to be killed himself a year later by a monk. Finally, the Gaston d'Orléans wing will satisfy cravings for Classical architecture. Azay le Rideau Castle
The Azay le Rideau Castle, one of the purest creation of the Renaissance, was built on an island in the Indre, an ideal setting for a jewel architecture. The son-and-light shows in the park during the summer tell some of the history of the castle and not to miss if you are there at the right time.

Chateau de Chenonceau
The Chateau des Dames built on a bridge over the Cher is one of the most beautiful castles of the Loire with elegant turrets, arches and stately avenues bordered by plane trees. It touches of romanticism is compounded by the fact that its symmetrical structure stylized and is reflected in the waters of Cher.

Chenonceau owes much of its design and beauty to four women in particular. Catherine of Briconnet who started the trend and was largely responsible for its renaissance at the beginning. Catherine then passed the baton to Diane de Poitiers (mistress Henri II) who was responsible for the formal gardens to the left of the castle as you approach. Unfortunately Diane de Poitiers was forced to relinquish ownership of Chenonceau to Catherine de Medici (the embittered wife of Henri II) who offered Chateau de Chaumont in exchange. Not exactly a fair exchange! Later, the castle was inherited by Louise de Lorraine, the woman in mourning for his favorite son, Henry III Catherine. Louise painted the ceiling of the room in black and white of respect for her deceased husband.

Madame Dupin also had a central role in the development Chenonceau in the 18th century and was responsible for encouraging literary events to be held here. People like Rousseau, Voltaire and Montesquieu all spending time here. Today Chenonceau is a profitable business run by the Menier family who are known as respected chocolatiers.

Castle Chaumont
Chateau du Chaumont is located on the south bank of the Loire about 20 minutes west of Blois. It was the first castle Chaumont-sur-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, France. Originally the 11th century, it was built by Eudes II, Count of Blois.

In 1560, the castle became the property Catherine de Medici who entertained numerous astrologers there, including Nostradamus. On the death of her husband, King Henry II, Catherine used her power to take over the coveted Chateau de Chenonceau from her husband's mistress, Diane de Poitiers. As some legal aspects had to be met, Diane was forced to accept the castle of Chaumont, in payment for her beloved Chenonceau. Diane de Poitiers lived at Chaumont for only a short period when the castle sold.

The castle holds an International Garden Festival, which covers a different theme each year from April to October.

Chateau de Chambord
Chambord is truly royal in its great scale, its grand air, its indifference to common consideration (Henry James). He combined the dream of King Francois I in the imagination of Leonardo da Vinci. The result is a genuine mathematical thinking in architecture, a grandiose creation: 440 rooms with 365 fireplaces, a fabulous double staircase, and a unique roof terrace

Chateau de Chambord: 15 minutes south-east Blois, Chambord Domaine national, Chambord, Tel: +33 (0) 2 54 5040 00 Open: Closed December 25, January 1 and May 1

It houses interesting and valuable antiques and furniture but it is probably best known for its Italian garden of Renaissance created by Doctor Carvallo. In addition to being very rich and decorative, the gardens produce fruit, vegetables and herbs that are sold locally to raise funds for the upkeep of the castle.

More shots of the many wines from France

Perfect pairs

April 12, 2007 – as published in the Naperville Sun and Beacon News

By Bill Garlough

Last spring, I was invited to a dream trip to wine lovers – a tour several major wine regions to taste the latest vintage barrel. The French believe the 2005 vintage may be the best in 40 years. As happens now for the year 2006 (and is an annual event), I thought that this experience should be shared.

Our first visit was the Rhone Valley. Northern Rhone is mountainous and has steep vineyards. The primary red grape is Syrah, with bold, spicy notes and pepper. We visited Domaine Vernay and were treated during 2003 – 2005 vintages of Syrah. We have had discussions in depth on the height good rootstock, the technical force the roots to grow deep into the ground, bleeding leaves, tying the new shoots and the use of fertilizers organic. Winegrowing, after all, is agriculture.

Next we visited the region of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhone. We visited Chateau Domaine Berthert-Nayme, where the vineyards are literally covered with round, lime baseball businesses in the vicinity of the Rhone. Owners Castle has generously treated to a sumptuous dinner. To share their hospitality, last October, the same Chateau owners were United States for a wine tour and we were glad to receive from us. That evening, we enjoyed a kitchen and a selection wines from California and local.

To the west toward Bordeaux, we traveled in the region of Cahors and visited the winery Clos Triguedina which wines were used by President Chirac for state dinners. They are a beautiful red with 100 percent malbec grapes called Prince Probus a dessert wine elegant white wines and specialty using the old method of drying wine grapes in an oven before the process fermentation. This darkens the color, concentrated aromas and aptly named Black Wine.

For our second week we went to Bordeaux divided by the Gironde River in two major wine regions. The left bank includes the Medoc and Graves regions with Cabernet Sauvignon. The right bank is mainly the Saint-Emilion, which focuses on merlot.

We began our visit to Saint-Emilion Bordeaux Chateau Cantenac. Other wineries Local tour included Castles Ausone Cheval Blanc and Angelus. Among these, I was struck by the sheer elegance and silky texture of the Horse White and layers of black fruit in the wine Chateau Angelus. These are two of my favorites.

To give us an overview of the 2005 vintage of Bordeaux, we have visited many wine wholesalers leading. As some tasting rooms of samples has literally hundreds of chateaux (wineries), I asked staff to please show me the top 20 in the room to reduce the field. He had to constantly use spit buckets to survive. In general The 2005 vintage is big, tannic and has layers of fruit. It should be a great year.

We started our tour left bank of the Medoc region north and worked our way south. The designations, we covered included Saint-Estephe, Pauillac, St. Julien, Margaux, Graves, Pessac-Leognan and Sauternes. We visited four to eight wineries a day. Probably more impressive today included Chateaux Latour, Lafite-Rothschild, Haut-Brion and Chateau d'Yquem. Undoubtedly, these are some of the best wines I ever tasted.

The castles themselves were beautiful and some were works of virtual art. I can better appreciate the feeling of pride the French feel for their industry wine, with its rich history and tradition. I was really gun over to France by their architecture, culture, cuisine, warm hospitality and the year 2005. Wonderful!

As the trip covered wines ranging from sweet wines of the Rhone, and Bordeauxs, their diversity does not put specific recommendations or specific month.

Please visit your local wine merchant and ask for their recommendations. The 2005 vintage is probably not yet available, but the 2000 and 2003 vintages have been excellent. The only vintage that is average / below average 2002 vintage.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is a wine from Bordeaux in Pessac-Leognan, Grand Cru classified in the classification of Graves in 1953. The area, located near the city of Bordeaux is the wine region of Graves, in the commune of Pessac additional items in Talence.

The castle also produces a second wine from young vines, La Chapelle de La Mission, since the year 1991. [1]

In the early 16th century, the land belonged to the family of Rostaing, home of M. de la Tour d'Esquivens, then called Arrejedhuys, planted with vines before it is transmitted Family Lestonnac in 1540 [2]. It remained under family ownership until 1654 when it was desired by Madame de Lestonnac for Vincentians Fathers, the priests of the Mission of St. Vincent de Paul. [3] The priests cultivated grapes for nearly 130 years until the French Revolution, leaving behind monastic foundations which have been expropriated by the state. [4] It was acquired by Martial Victor Vaillant in November 1792 for 302,000 pounds, and nearly a hundred years it was owned by the family Chiapella. [2] [3]

In 1919 it was sold by Frederick Victor Cousteau Otto Woltner. [2] [3] Woltner son, Ferdinand and Henry, regarded as innovative viticulture, the restructuring of vineyards to produce better grapes. Henry Woltner which became manager of the estate in 1921, in addition to being credited as the pioneer of the use of glass lined tanks in the winemaking process in 1926 [3], came to be known as a genius "wine maker" [5].

For many years considered the chief challenger to his story more important close neighbor Chateau Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion wines sold at high prices, but it was considered justified because they "produced remarkable bottle". [4] The prolific Woltners ran operations at the nearby Chateau La Tour Haut-Brion for the widow Marie Coustau since the death of her husband in 1923 until his death in 1933 to leave the castle to the family Woltner In his will, and in 1931 was the Woltners acquired the nearby Chateau Laville Haut-Brion that they produce a dry white wine considered one of the best Graves [5].

After Woltner death of Henry in 1974 and his brother shortly after the estate was run by Frances and Francis Woltner Dewavrin, daughter and son-Fernand Woltner. [3] While the standards have been maintained, family discord has led to the sale of the estate with La Tour Haut-Brion and Laville Haut-Brion in 1983 [1], [3] the Domaine Clarence Dillon, owner of Chateau Haut-Brion since 1935 [6] while Dewavrin spent running in the castle Woltner Howell Mountain AVA. [7] Although the historical competition between Haut-Brion and La Mission has been absent in recent years, thanks to the supervision of Jean-Bernard Delmas Dillon Vineyard local original estate was allowed, and the Mission has remained distinctive [1].

American wine critic Robert Parker presented the Parker hundred points up for the 2006 La Mission Haut Brion, [8] making it six times Parker has given the cellar of this partition. [9 Jancis] Robinson, The Mission describes MW as "insider wine par excellence" [1], while David Pepper, MW holds a consistent performance of the estate during the century latter as a justification for classifying the Mission as Premier Cru, as has been done for Château Mouton Rothschild in 1973. [3], [10]

In March 2010, it was announced that the wine of Chateau Laville Haut-Brion cease to be bottled under the label, and instead produced under the name Castle La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, starting with the 2009 vintage.

RESTORATION OF WINE – Saves The Day FOR DINNER receive at home

"So far so good," murmured his wife.

Last she said that it was almost involuntary, and his fingers were two buttons below to remove her blouse. But this time was different – there was a little romance in it. It was a pat on the shoulder of the Lion for imminent success of a social dinner party held in a critical favorite restaurants Manila. For him, it was of course all the work. For richer – and do not forget attractive – woman, it was a good dose of glamor and glory. But He does not complain. As a police officer in New York say that in a television interview life after taking a bullet in the cheek (bottom) during a seizure of drugs, I just do my job. "

Everyone at the table agreed that the most formal dinners have been a robbery of a poorly preserved national treasure called time. But his attitude well-rounded 49-years, the harmonious integration of its sub-good looks to emit a certain attraction delighted that the table 10 of the salad to the soup.

Karina is 37-years, other magnificent half – very desirable, but very busy. She was also secretly welcomed the choice of this restaurant to hold this dinner, and the choice of husband for everything else. Clearly it about this marriage. Curiously, he loved and he loved it.

After 10 dinners per month for six months on, these things may seem insignificant exceptionally to the host. After all, more formal dinners tend to be well sculpted effusion of mediocrity extravagant. It must be fate then, that someone must antithesize the couple socially prosperous. As the quail were served on china rustic dancer of 24 years, aspiring / server made a stunning achievement that would be seen as defying the dead return to a time more civilized few centuries ago. She pours the wine into the glass wrong wrong. Or was that bad wine glass right, or good wine in the glass badly …? Heck, the wine the bottle is red (pinot noir) and wine in the glass was red (Merlot) – Pwede Na! Not since the medieval times of war Burgundy was against Bordeaux with great contempt if, now a mere echo of inspiring battle cry "Today, we fight!

The sliding doors open again, rewind – take two.

You have a very important dinner for 10. Gentlemen will be jackets and ties, ladies in cocktail dresses. The good news is that you have a license to kill P 60,000. The bad news is that you are the host. News could get worse in a hurry if the old Murphy (Murphy's Law) came uninvited. Murphy is still working overtime to spice up your act with a little sparkling disasters. Then there would be a lot of publicity of the most effective kind – word of mouth.

There are currently two ways to skin this cat.

First option – you can do what most people would do without thinking and that is to throw the dinner in a restaurant premium. In terms of money matters, P 3,000 / head, 10 times total P 30,000 for food and beverages. Add another P 25,000 for seven bottles of wine forgettable. But you can not make it too regular, or your guests could just notice with dubious value. Hmm, let's see – is P 55,000. How about advice? OK, we'll call it an even bigger 60. Push him away from the table and draw a rough night in front hosts request a dessert wine at the end of evening. This is another great even 10, I thank you very much.

Clear accumulator. Now consider the second option. entertain your guests with an elegant dinner at home with the help of a professional. Again, we will start by counting the beans.

Cost Dinner for entertaining at home

Shopping money for food P 10,000

Personal Chef Catering Wine and P 35,000

The bill for dinner home P 45,000

If saving 15,000 P does not do much for you, here's a kicker – you get to show that the house Million Dollar yours. The dining room overlooked much appreciate a little life and romance too. But it really work? Oh yes, it and here is how, piece by piece.

Personal Chef

A band of culinary staff works quickly behind the scene. One chef and land commissioner in your driveway-Day They are armed with up-in-place of their production kitchen. Four hours before curtain, March curious boxes in your kitchen by rear door. This may be a good time for you to take this bath for long. There is not much fun watching the preparations of major illusion, even if it is David Copperfield? And yes, you will need to give the command of your regular kitchen staff officer temporarily Culinary tour commander. Who knows, the kitchen staff can learn a few things from this joint exercise.

Shopping

The major problem with the entertaining (as opposed to eat) is anathema to the essence of the document processor called "menu. Most Menus do not change for several months, even years, if you go to the house steak medium. They are irrelevant. Even if "special menu" are designed for special dinners, it is generally a low remix tired old tunes ingredients in hibernating in the freezer for months. How to excite your dinner guests then?

When you dine, your personal chef goes to the market and took the best stuff around. There is no reason for him to do otherwise. He did not respond to food costs. But there is a budget shopping of course. After all, this is not heaven, you know. What a refreshing change to his life cooker in the kitchen? For dinner, he has 10,000 in its P pocket to engage. Without a doubt, he can not help but stretch the peso to the limit – an occupational hazard. This menu is what he has in mind for a case of this magnitude.

Wine Catering – working with professionals

The component of wine is the stumbling block of perennials in the formal dinners. So many things are dying to go wrong. So many people are still willing to talk about these things. And they certainly talk about, so far, many weeks.

We are not talking only bring bottles to the table and pour into glasses. We talk about all aspects of the wine label. The wine selection means wine pairing food cons, the understanding of operating temperatures, any pitchers, glasses of wine and wine specific to using the standards – Works. Nobody can expect regular household staff know much about wine service. Therefore, the restoration of the wine is essential. But how does the wine of restoration work? Catering Wine is not a new concept and it is not a new product in this society. But Many people have not explored this possibility. It costs nothing to avoid major embarrassment.

The caterer offers a selection of wine wines for your approval. In this example, approximately 52 liters of wine should be sufficient, on average a little over half a bottle per person – an amount civilized. Only the most ignorant caterers wine would even extended its budget evenly across all seven cylinders. Instead he used a few bottles cheap but decent to start the evening by booking good money in the budget for the "recommended wines. The showcase featured wines, dishes Featured – usually entrees – to create a conversation piece. Yes, it's just show biz.

Now look at what your guests drink for four hours this evening and talk for the next four weeks:

Total Cost

By Price Wine Bottle

2 bottles of Bergerac 1999 P 800 P 1600

2 bottles of Chablis 2001 P 1600 P 800 Small

- The wines recommended –

2 bottles of 1975 Ch Croque-Michotte P 4500 P 9000

– Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

1 bottle of 1983 Ch Du Mayne, P P 7000 7000

- Sauternes Barsac

Bill Total commercial wine P19, 200

Wine glasses, like silverware, china and candles are all part of the atmosphere as paints and other decoration in the dining room. It certainly enhances the experience but it may equally well colored foam sarcasm if you do no attention to these details. Your guests will have four hours to notice these things.

Catering Good wine never fails to come up with glasses special wine feature. For the first two wines, they will use wine glasses whatever they find in your home. When you arrive at the 30-year-old Croque-Michotte Château de Saint-Emilion, the elegant red Bordeaux glasses erase the impression your guests to previous cuts. These small toys Riedel cost P 4,000 per room to not keep us all boxes of them at home. And of course we must also have the sexy-sweet Sauternes Glass to drink wine from 1983 vintage equally compelling Chateau Du Mayne Barsac, which are both shown in the picture. The shape of the lenses bring out the flavor and bouquet of wine specific. They are also a feast for the eyes.

Speaking of details, here is another fun part of working with professionals. The wine is always good caterer provide you a summary of the wines presented. This is a one-minute shortcut to connoisseur. The two pages between covers are slightly for the eyes of the host, of course. This is not verbose course, but there is a sufficient dose of this knowledge enable customers to develop expectations.

Wine selection must go perfectly with each course of dinner. Given this, the caterer and the chef wine staff must come from the same source. Unless you are anchored in the dark art of arbitration, it is probably not a good idea to get them from different companies.

When it comes to issues as fickle as the reputation and stature, it is difficult to understand why someone would even consider leaving things in the hands of foreigners and lovers. the risk for stocks, currencies and wild nights in town, not issues wine and food. Catering Wine is something that is precious in home entertaining – the peace of mind.

* * * * *

In the director's cut, the scene is played very differently. Dancing boy is replaced by a wine server 27-year-old charming but very professional. Wine glasses containing wine leftover from previous courses have been deleted and replaced by the calm Riedel Glasses Red Bordeaux for Croque-Michotte '75. Although nearly 30 years has been cooling in a decanter 13C – the temperature required to serve a Merlot-based red is matured Bordeaux – the bottle was presented to each guest. At the same time Leo shared his remarks connoisseur of wine featured with the table. As you recall, these comments were delivered to him a day before the caterer of wine. admiring eyes collected Leo as he combined fact with poetry to produce magic.

When the evening arrived at Chateau du Mayne 1983 cute wine glasses Sauternes graced the table, always difficult to please Karina began to feel irrevocably guaranteed. Yes, it was very special in spite of the inevitable damage of a few pesos and the evil of some indiscretions unnecessary. What really matters to Karina now is that life was very special, and if this were not enough, that his was his.

Do you think the Auvergne? – Rethink

Skiing, snowboarding, dog sleds, toboggans and quads. These and many other Things can be found when you visit the Auvergne winter.

Just hop to France and visit the Auvergne, where the snow cascaded volcanic slopes covered is a very popular pastime.

The Auvergne is home to the "Monts Dome ', a mountain ridge south-west of Clermont-Ferrand, composed of more than 80 volcanoes that became extinct at least 4,000 years. This land has many beautiful peaks (Known Puys) with the imposing Puy de Dome Clermont Ferrand giving reach 1465m and the Puy de Sancy an impressive 1886m, the highest peak in France outside the Alps and the Pyrenees.

Superbesse and Le Mont Dore are two major ski resorts located on opposite sides of the Puy de Sancy. These stations are linked (weather permitting) and provide a combined field 85 km. The ski pass (7 days € 135 per adult, € 94.60 per child in high season – winter 2008) can be used in both stations. In December 2008, a new cable will open in Superbesse improving access to the summit, the Puy de la Perdrix (1850). The small resort is located Chastreix-Sancy on the west side of the Puy de Sancy, which has 16 km of tracks. This is not related to the two main stations.

Many small stations combined with the above to form the Great Spaces of Auvergne, where you will find over 200 km of ski slopes and 900 km of cross country skiing. The area is perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers and is a great place to learn to ski. The season 2008 / 9 ski trails from December 1 to April 26.

The ski resorts of Auvergne are very family oriented. The main ski resorts have all schools at all levels of ability. Superbesse and Mount Dore both ski clubs nursery (Piwi Piwi) where children from 4 years can learn to ski in a separate area away from the main runways. For younger children, there is a Superbesse nursery catering for children from 3 months.

Parking is adequate in both Superbesse and Le Mont Dore but was soon in high season. alternate access is offered by the free ski shuttle which provides a regular service between the centers of Besse and Le Mont Dore and the main gondola.

Apart from downhill or cross country skiing there is a wealth of other winter activities available in the region. For example, "Casing" (drag at high speed down the side of the mountain!), Tobogganing, ice skating, snow-kiting, ice climbing, quad winter, dog sled speed ski-ing to name a few. All these activities (outdoor) have their own safe areas.

Excellent way to explore the landscape is covered with snow by taking one of many trails for snowshoes. You can make your own way (equipment available for rental) to explore the region at your own pace through the marked trails or enjoy the services of a mountain guide. Half day or full day tours are offered as well as travel by night with dinner and overnight at a farm or in the mountains "buron.

Accommodation in the region is abundant and varied with a good selection of hotels, bed and breakfast and self catering houses, cottages and apartments. Away Station Housing is cheaper and more organizations in the region have a good selection of vacation rentals within 10-20 minutes drive from the slopes.

There is a good choice restaurants in and around ski resorts for all tastes and budgets. Traditional dishes are truffade Auvergne, a feast of carbohydrate load of potatoes, cheese and cured meats is a perfect meal after a hard day on the mountains, and aligot, mashed garlic sausage usually served with French. Of course, light meals are available, but the emphasis is on traditional local products, typical of this largely agricultural region.

Throughout the winter season, a number of special events are held. From December 29 to January 2nd Superbesse hosts "Nordic Week with activities typical of the Scandinavian winter as dog sledding, biathlon and Nordic cross country ING. The "Sancy Snow Dog 'a racing sled dogs takes place during the weekend of 3 and January 4, Le Mont Dore. On January 31 Superbesse houses one of the famous "Trophy series Andros car racing where the competition on a track made entirely of solid ice. Not for the timid! And between 12 and 21 February is the "Sancy Snow Jazz Festival "featuring New Orleans and traditional jazz playing in bars, restaurants and nightclubs. For a unique skiing experience you can not beat the Auvergne with its excellent range of activities and family friendly resorts.
