If you are considering making your own homemade wine, here are some things you should know about the equipment needed to get you started.
First, we need to talk about cost. You can visit the online merchants here, there and everywhere to shop for the best prices on the various items you'll need to start making your own wine, but most sites that sell the equipment offers a sort of incipient equipment kit who have all the elements you need to get your career started making wine. This is absolutely the best way to go my opinion. Kits will run between $ 80 – $ 150. That'sa lot of money, but this equipment can be used over centuries and thus end up paying for himself.
So what is included in a kit, anyway? To begin, you'll have a bucket of plastic primary fermentation, usually around 8 liters. After primary fermentation, you'll need something to transfer your wine in the second fermentation. It is generally called 5 or 6 bottles of glass gallon, a cylinder, although in some kits, the secondary is plastic.
This will also include rubber plugs that match the fermentation vessels, and an airlock, which is a device used to allow carbon dioxide when your wine is fermented by not allowing bacteria from the air and in. You should also get a couple of brushes, one for cleaning the bottles and another so you can clean the carboy.
A kind of cleaning agent and disinfectant will be included. Cleaning and disinfection is a critical stage where the production of wine. A length of plastic tube will be provided, and sometimes a device called siphon equipment that facilitates the transfer of your wine from one vessel to another. Some kits also include a small camera to slip on tube plastic that allows you to stop the flow of wine when you're bottling.
Most kits include a hydrometer. It is a device that measures the specific gravity of wine during various stages of development. You can also use it to measure the degree potential of your wine. The plugs are also in most of the necessary equipment, as a sort of capper to insert the plugs.
This is a minimum list of items, and you'll find kits that include much more.
